Yeah, it finally arrived – Chase Weekend at Chicagoland Speedway!
Forecast for Friday was not good — that four letter “r” word. Before I left for the track,
it was already drizzling/raining at my house. I texted friends who was already at the track and they all said, “it was not raining in Joliet”. So packed the car and headed to Joliet.
As I was heading on Laraway Road and finally saw the track, the excitement started to build even more. I feel like a kid going to DisneyWorld.
I got to the track about 10:30am — just in time for some practicing of Nationwide Series and then Sprint Cup Series. At about 2pm, practice was completed and waiting for Nationwide qualifying, then the Truck Race. However, the rain moved in and despite valient efforts of Chicagoland Speedway trying to dry the track a couple of times between 2pm and 6:30pm; both qualifying and the truck race were postponed until Saturday.
The forecast for the rest of the weekend was suppose to be nice. On Saturday, I got to the track around 9:30am and trekked from the parking lot to the infield. The schedule for Saturday was Nationwide qualifying, Final Sprint Cup Series Practice, Nationwide race, and then the Truck Race.
What a great day!!! I got to shoot photography for two of my friends – Eric and Will. I truly appreciate both of them giving me the wonderful opportunity to always shoot for them.
Sunday was the “perfect” day for racing – blue sky and not a cloud in the sky!!! At 9:00am, the pit and infield fan zone opened. I got a chance to meet up and chat with my friend Jason (the last couple years, we were never able to catch up). At 11am, the Austin Mahone concert started and driver introductions started about 12:15pm and the MyAFibStory dot com 400 race started at 1pm.
It was an exciting race especially as we got down to the last 50 laps or so. Lot of hard racing between Brad Keselowski, Jeff Gordon, Kevin Harvick, Jimmie Johnson, young Kyle Larson and Kyle Busch.
In the end it was Brad Keselowski winning – #2 Ford Miller Lite. First time a Ford won at Chicagoland Speedway.
